With the exception of several pages devoted to sentences showing something of the complicated pronoun system, no attempt has been made to give any grammar. Ample interleaved space is provided and should be freely availedi] of by the learner for jotting down new words and p rases which crowd upon the student once the stage of simple conversation is reached. The learner should make free use of the opening question Ava qo? And note carefully the answer. Careful attention to a good native pandit (preferably an intelligent lad) is the surest and quickest way to acquire a correct pronunciation.. It need hardly be pointed out that there are very many different dialects in use throughout New Britain and adjacent islands. That used in this booklet (a tinata Kuanua) is spoken and understood by many thousands of natives in New Britain and New Ireland, and already a considerable Mission literature has been printed in it.
