Lets Get to Know Luis!



Cora and Luis are classmates who both have a tendency to daydream at school. Cora starts to notice that her friend Luis is a bit different from the other kids. Some days, he's talkative and full of energy, but other days he's sad or angry and doesn't want to be around anyone. As she and Luis become closer friends, she decides to ask him about it, and he shares that he has a mental illness called bipolar disorder. Through Luis, Cora learns all about mental illness and how even though Luis is different from other kids in some ways, he's still a great friend and a lot of fun!





About the Author



Charles Valenzuela has lived with mental illness throughout his life, but he knows that's only a small part of who he is. He is passionate about advocating for mental health rights to lift up those who need to be uplifted. An artist and graphic designer, he not only wrote this story but also created the illustrations. He believes we all have talent, and we must reach out and find out what it is so that we can show it to the world.
