This is a superb overview of the works, writings, and interviews of acclaimed French artist Yves Klein. The son of Fred Klein and Marie Raymond, both well regarded artists, Yves Klein (1928-1962) took the art world by storm in a brief but intense career that lasted just eight years, from 1954 to 1962. Working in Paris during the height of the geometric abstraction and Art Informel, Klein's work can be seen as a precursor to many of the avant-garde movements that emerged during the postwar years - including minimalism, conceptual art, and performance art. His first public showing was an artist book published in 1954, "Yves: Peintures", in which he parodied traditional art catalogues by featuring a series of intense monochromes linked to various cities in which he lived. In 1957, he unveiled his most famous and defining work, "Proposition Monochrome: Blue Epoch", which featured 11 identical canvases painted with a blue colour - named "International Klein Blue" ("IKB") - of the artist's own creation.
