Sarah Colleen is based on my daughter, Sarah. We live in the Piney Woods of East Texas, and we are almost surrounded by forest. I imagine what Sarah would be like as a young teenager exploring the woods with Ruby and Molly. I did much the same as a boy growing up, but with no dogs to keep me company.

I didn't have many pets growing up, but as an adult, I found myself to be more of a cat person. Nearly all our cats are strays that wandered into our lives. Ruby and Molly were more recent additions.

I want Sarah Colleen to reflect the atmosphere of East Texas and to show what most young people do when growing up in this part of Texas. Sarah is smart, friendly, and a bit independent. Her parents have shared their faith and their knowledge with Sarah and have equipped her with those things they believe will be most useful to her in navigating this world we live by demonstrating a higher way of thinking and acting.
