Since 1885, when Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz developed their first self-propelled vehicles, motorcar manufacturers have turned out thousands of makes and models. A few of these, by virtue of their exceptional beauty, character, innovative design or technological superiority, have earned the accolade "classic."
This book presents 46 of those memorable motorcars in detailed, accurate line drawings rendered by a noted Swedish firm of technical illustrators. Produced by American and European manufacturers from 1902 to 1953, the cars include these time-honored vehicles: "Seventy Panhard" (1902); Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost (1910); Morris Oxford (1913); Model T Ford (1924); Hispano-Suiza 37.2 (1928); Lincoln Phaeton (1929); Oldsmobile Viking (1929/30); M. G. Type M (1930); Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow (1933); Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica (1934); Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B (1938); Packard (1940); Cadillac (1941); Jaguar XK 120 (1949); and many more.
The illustrations are presented in chronological order, enabling colorists and car buffs to trace the technical and stylistic development of the automobile from around the turn of the century to the early 1950s. In addition, informative captions provide expert descriptive commentary on each car, including its distinctive qualities, type of engine, innovations, etc. Several cars are rendered in authentic period coloring on the covers to guide and inspire colorists in their choice of tints and tones.
