What matters is the story within history, is claimed by one of the characters in this historic novel with romantic overtones that Too Malpica develops in three different periods; this novel survives thanks to a manuscript that has passed from hand to hand. This manuscript narrates the friendship and adventures of a group of children that are leaving childhood behind in Mexico City at the beginning of the 20th century, the picturesque life of the capital and the discovery of love experienced by Pegote and Ofelia. This love story comes to a halt when Ophelia moves with her family to Paris, and after a long time (mid-seventies), she decides to hire Jesus Rivera to investigate the whereabouts of her former boyfriend. Thus, the story about the Pegote, a boy who is as good at puns and card games as he is for punches and kicks, is narrated through the manuscript recovered by Rivera and the testimonies given by different characters that met him. Finally, in recent years, Rivera's manuscript and research come to Jos lvez, a writer who discovers in Ophelia and Pegote's history a reason to look back, to his own history.
